What an unforgettable night for our Golden Hawks Track & Field team at the 2026 Hamilton County Middle School Championships held Thursday at Hamilton Southeastern High School!

Out of 11 county schools, your Golden Hawks soared to the top, capturing the County Championship with 103 points, edging out Creekside’s 97 in a thrilling finish!

The night started strong with a 1st place finish in the 4x800m Relay, powered by Garrett Rusnak, Bennett Floyd, Jackson Smith, and Calvin Leopold.

From there, the Hawks kept flying:

  • Khole Shelton sprinted to 1st in the 100m dash
  • Garrett Rusnak added a 3rd place finish in the 1600m
  • Miles Soehngen made history, winning the 400m dash for the third straight year—a first-ever 3-peat!
  • Alex Moore contributed with a strong 5th place finish in the 400m

In the distance events:

  • Garrett Rusnak claimed 1st place in the 800m, with Calvin Leopold right behind in 2nd
  • Jackson Smith battled to a 2nd place finish in the 2400m

Additional strong performances included:

  • Darius Johnson placing 7th in the 200m
  • Stuart Sandberg earning 5th in Shot Put and 6th in Discus
  • And Khole Shelton dominating again with a 1st place finish in Long Jump

Heading into the final events, Riverside trailed Creekside by just one point.

Then came the turning point…
The 4x400m Relay team of Alex Moore, Garrett Rusnak, Calvin Leopold, and Miles Soehngen delivered a clutch 1st place victory in a NEW SCHOOL RECORD TIME of 3:39.20, defeating the defending champions and giving Riverside a 1-point lead going into the final event.

With everything on the line, Khole Shelton stepped up once more, sealing the championship in the High Jump—outscoring Creekside’s athletes 8–3 and securing the 6-point overall victory for the Golden Hawks!
